ESPN’s Dan Rafael reported earlier this week that the rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana will be shown in 570 movie theaters nationwide. Fathom Events and Mayweather Promotions announced the joint effort this week.
Ticket prices vary but in my area they range from $20-$25 per ticket. The event starts one hour earlier from the normal start time to ensure that east coast viewers get to see the main event before midnight.
Payout Perspective:
The move to partner with Fathom Events is not surprising as Mayweather looks for all revenue streams for this fight. Certainly, he will receive a portion of the proceeds. The hope is that the first fight got more people interested in the second fight. Going to a theater might entice some fight fans with the expected PPV price to be $75. While this may pull away some fans from a PPV purchase, it’s not like we will know exactly how many.
