UFC Primetime for Rousey-Carmouche

January 6, 2013 by Jason Cruz 8 Comments

MMA Junkie reports that the next UFC Primetime series will feature Ronda Rousey and Liz Carmouche in leadup to UFC 157.  The three part series will commence February 8th on Fuel TV.

Via MMA Junkie:

Following the Friday-night debuts (which also include Feb. 15 and Feb. 22), FX reairs “UFC Primetime: Rousey vs. Carmouche” the following Saturdays at 11 a.m. ET/PT and Sunday at 2 a.m. ET/PT.

Payout Perspective:

This move should not be surprising considering the amount of press Rousey has received upon entering the UFC.  I will be interested to see how the UFC will address the various storylines out of this series.  Call me old fashioned, but the backstory on why each chose to fight would be interesting.  While Rousey’s backstory has been told and retold, most have not heard of Carmouche.  We will also see how the UFC addresses Carmouche’s sexual orientation in the series.  Will it be glossed over or will the UFC dedicate some time to it

With the news that ticket sales have been sluggish, any promotion for UFC 157 is needed.

This is hilarious. Seriously… who in their right mind is excited for a women’s MMA match.

Didn’t Dana himself shit all over women’s MMA as short as 2 years ago?

Very interested to see the series. Big Carmouche fan. Really enjoyed Invicta over the weekend and am excited for the debut of WMMA in the UFC. I didn’t think it would ever happen; just goes to show you that anything can happen in this sport.

This fight will probably end up doing between $800,000 and $900,000 in terms of live gate. If I’m not mistaken that would mean Rousey-Carmouche drew a larger gate in California than any Andre Ward fight or Klitschko-Arreola. Yet people will somehow interpret two 135 lbs. females doing that as a “failure”. Fans have expectation that are just WAY out of the bounds of reality.

If this card draws it will be mainly due to Machida vs. Henderson.

I think this event will be huge in PPV buys.At least compared to what it would be without Rousey. Without her this is a 300-350,000 buys card. With Rousey i expect this to be around 500K or more. That dont sound like much but consider Jon Jones only does around 500K buys.
