UFC Announces UK and Ireland Outlets for UFC 100

July 9, 2009

British UFC fans have two ways of experiencing UFC 100 live: on Sky Channel 433 and online at UK.UFC.com. Both options will be completely free of charge.

Sky Channel 433’s UFC 100 coverage will begin at 9pm, Saturday, as a 9-hour UFC marathon gets underway with all five episodes of the ‘UFC’s Top 100 Fights’. This will be followed by the official ‘Countdown to UFC 100’ program which then leads into 3am, ejrm UFC 100 will go live. UK fight fans unable to join the televised action on Sky Channel 433 can also catch UFC 100 by logging on to UK.UFC.com.

UFC 100 will be televised live on Setanta Ireland in Eire as well as Northern Ireland this coming Saturday, July 11, the Ultimate Fighting Championship® organization has confirmed. The live action gets underway from 3am in the early hours of Sunday (July 12) morning and Setanta Ireland will broadcast full main card action from the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas.

Analysis: The move pretty much is a stop gap measure to my eye, meant to get the show on the air but not really being indicative of a larger deal with SKY. The UFC are in a time crunch to get a deal done for UFC 100, but they are also balancing that against who will be the long term best fit for the company. This deal with Sky will buy time while they weigh the options like the new ESPN channel, Virgin, Channel 5, and others that will fit for the next 3 to 4 years, not the next three to four events.

Got something to say?
