Countdown and TUF Ratings News

April 16, 2009

MMAPayout.com has learned that TUF Season 9 Episode 3 earned a 0.9 household rating, with a 1.2 in Men 18-49, a .9 in People 18-49, a 1.13 in Men 18-34, and an average audience of 1.2 million viewers.

The .9 marks a 25% ratings decline since the debut, and mirrors the rating trend from last season. The next few weeks should be key. The show may see a ratings rebound like last season (one precipitated by the Junie Browning antics) or they may level off at a lower level. The Spike producers who work on TUF are old hands at this game, though, so I wouldn’t go so far as to write off the show ratings-wise just yet. One or two controversial rabbits may be still left in the hat to be pulled for a ratings bump.

MMAPayout.com also learned that the Countdown to UFC 97 program that debuted on Monday night drew 774,000 viewers. This is an extremely strong number and may portend of good things for the performance of the card on PPV. Monday night airings generally pull smaller numbers than what the Countdown shows receive in their usual Thursday night slot. The past few Monday night debuts have drawn in the 500k viewer range (including Lesnar v Couture),so the 700k figure looks especially strong.
