MMA Think Tank: MMA 808 (Vid)

October 9, 2008

Dr. David Mayeda directs and hosts MMA 808, which takes a look at the social and cultural context of MMA in the Hawaiian community. It is interesting the level of mainstream acceptance that MMA seems to have attained in the Hawaiian culture.

Excellent work by Dr. Mayeda, this docu is some higher level thinking on MMA, which is always encouraged. As much as this site is focused towards the businessman, we also try to offer something to the thinking man. Mayeda’s work certainly qualifies in that respect, and we’d like to give a forum for that.

David Mayeda, PhD, has also published the book Fighting for Acceptance: Mixed Martial Artists and Violence in American Society, a sociological and politically-based book based on interviews with 40 mixed martial arts athletes, including Antonio McKee, Randy Couture, Guy Mezger, “Rampage” Jackson, Chris Leben, Travis Lutter, Toby Grear, Cleburn Walker, and Frank Trigg.
