Bad Press in NYC

August 18, 2008

NYC paper Newsday had a piece in their Sunday paper entitled UFC’s ‘Rampage’ is living up to his name

He won the UFC light-heavyweight title in May 2007, knocking out reigning champion Chuck Liddell in the first round, then beat PRIDE middleweight champion Dan Henderson to retain the title the following September. Last month, Jackson co-headlined an event with fellow Ultimate Fighter coach Forrest Griffin in Las Vegas, though Jackson lost a unanimous decision and the championship.

Jackson, however, may have his toughest battle ahead.

After a high-speed, multiple-collision car chase that resulted in his arrest July 15, the brash, albeit wildly popular Jackson faces multiple felony charges.

The piece doesn’t break any new ground or shed any new light on the subject. It is more of note due to the possibility of it being used by opponents of MMA in the efforts to stall the passing of MMA legislation in NY. Not a good thing to be out there for when they go back before the New York State Tourism Committee for approval.
