Adrenaline MMA Delayed, Looks to October

August 7, 2008

Steve Sievert spoke with Adrenaline MMA promoter Monte Cox and learned that the card planned for early September has been delayed:

….a Sept. 6 return to Illinois, specifically Moline in the Quad Cities area, was in the works. However, that was before the UFC scheduled UFC 90 in Atlanta on the same date.

A decision to move the Adrenaline event to the following Saturday was subsequently scrapped due to a conflict with the Iowa vs. Iowa State football game, which could siphon would-be ticket buyers. That’s pushed Adrenaline MMA II to the following month, with either Oct. 18 or Oct. 25 the likely landing spot.

The delay in the Adrenaline card throws into question the status of Ben Rothwell and Tim Sylvia for these two cards. Preliminary match-ups for the Adrenaline card were introduced yesterday with neither mentioned as having a match on the October 11th Affliction card. With most estimating Affliction lost on the $3 to $5 million dollar range, Sylvia’s $800k price tag and Rothwell’s $250k could be a target for cost cutting measures, with their inclusion on the Adrenaline card a face saving fallback. While it is unclear what Sylvia’s salary for Adrenaline will be, it has been stated by Cox that Rothwell will make $200,000 for his fights for the promotion.
